In 1927, William Boeing founded Boeing Air Transport which merged with Pratt & Whitney to form the United Aircraft and Transport Corporation (UATC). In 1931, UATC formed United Air Lines, Inc. as a holding company for its airline subsidiaries. Finally in 2012, United and Continental merged and eliminated the Continental Brand.   • The First flight – from Pasco, Washington, to Boise, Idaho, in a Swallow aircraft the morning of April 6, 1926.

  • First modern airliner – a United Boeing 247 in the 1920s.

  • Female flight attendants – in 1930 at the suggestion of Ellen Church and 7 other women were the first flight attendants and all were registered nurses.

  • A First Commercial Aviation’s flight kitchen – inflight dining was added by created the first flight kitchen in Oakland, California. The meals served included a choice of fried chicken or scrambled eggs.

  • Male flight attendants – Men flight attendants began working for United in 1950 on flights between the U.S. mainland and Hawaii.
