Albertsons Companies, Inc. is an American grocery company established and based in Boise, Idaho. Before their merger with Safeway Inc., Albertsons had just a little over 1,000 stores placed in 29 US states under 12 different banners. They currently have more than 2,200 stores running making them the second-largest- supermarket chain in North America after Kroger.   

Joe Albertson founded Albertsons on July 21, 1943 in Boise, Idaho. The store was filled with perks which made an ad in the local newspaper call their first store as “Idaho’s largest and finest food store.” Albertson’s grocery store was a huge success making him reinvest his profits back into the business and open new stores in neighboring towns in late 1941. As Albertson considered putting up a new store, he would drive around the town and find neighborhoods with children’s clothing hanging on clotheslines. These neighborhoods were his preferred location to build stores.
