Company Summary:

FedEx Corporation was formerly known as Federal Express Corporation and FDX Corporation. It is an American multinational delivery service company based in Memphis, Tennessee. FedEx is most popular for its air delivery service, FedEx Express, considered as the first major shipping companies that offered overnight delivery as a flagship store. From there, FedEx started FedEx Ground, FedEx Office, FedEx Freight, FedEx Supply Chain, and other services throughout multiple subsidiaries, most often responding to their main competitor, UPS.

Frederick W. Smith started FedEx in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1971 as Federal Express Corporation. Smith was a graduate of Yale University and came up with the concept from a term paper at Yale, which he described as a system that is created particularly for urgent deliveries. Despite of what his professor’s comments, Smith persisted with his idea.  Formal operations of the company started in 1973 after he moved operations to Memphis. He chose Memphis due to its location and the lack of frequent inclement weather. As the company grew, FedEx had a billion dollars in revenues by 1983 and later expanded to Europe and Asia.

FedEx designed their employee compensation and rewards according to the individual effort, innovation, and as a means to encourage outstanding performance. FedEx provides an attractive and complete package of pay, benefits, and quality of work/life programs.
