Company Summary:

The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization providing emergency assistance, delivering disaster relief, and coaching disaster preparedness in the United States. They are the chosen US affiliate of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies together with the United States movement to the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

A quick history of the organization will show Clara Barton starting off the American Red Cross in Dansville, New York on May 21, 1881 and became the first president. She had set up a meeting with then Senator Omar D. Conger on May 12 of the same year.  Included in the meeting were Barton, Conger, and Representative William Lawrence plus 12 other people to establish the first local chapter of American Red Cross at the English Evangelical Lutheran Church of Dansville.

Final Company Information

March is proclaimed “Red Cross Month” by the president of the United States every year.  This month is a chance to honor and celebrate the everyday heroes who assist in fulfilling their mission.  This started with President Franklin D. Roosevelt who first recognized Red Cross month in 1943.

Currently, as throughout their long history, the American Red Cross depends on generous contributions of time, blood, and money from the American public to assist in supporting their lifesaving services and programs.
