Company Summary:

This company was founded in 1886. Three brothers, Robert Wood Johnson, James Wood and Edward Mead started the company. Their first factory was located in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The were the first company ever to mass produce the following: antiseptic surgical supplies, statures, gauze and bandages. They are one of the first companies to sponsor ads on TV in the 1950s. Today, Johnson & Johnson has expanded to have offices in 60 countries and over 130,000 people as a part of their workforce.

An interesting fact is that when the Spanish-American War broke out in 1898, Robert Wood Johnson instituted a progressive policy for its time: The company would hold positions for employees who served in the military. Not only that but they would continue to pay their salaries. Over a century later, Johnson & Johnson continues to offer these same benefits to its military employees in addition to paid time off after military leave in order to aid them in acclimating back to life at home.
