Company Summary:

UBS Group AG is a Swiss multinational investment bank and financial services company that started and is based in Switzerland.  Co-headquartered in cities of Zurich and Basel, UBS maintains a presence in many major financial centers as the biggest name in Swiss banking institution in the world. The bank has their largest positions in the Americas, EMEA, and Asia Pacific, which make it a systemically imperative financial institution within the broader economy of Europe.

This company was officially founded in April of 1862 as the Bank in Winterthur together with the beginning of the Swiss banking industry.  It was in the 1890s when the Swiss Bank Corporation was established and formed a private banking organization that expanded guided by Switzerland’s international neutrality.  The Bank of Winterthur soon merged with Toggenburger Bank to create the Union Bank of Switzerland (UBS) and soon grew fast after the Banking Law of 1934 codified Swiss banking secrecy.

Did you know?

Although the organization’s new name was supposedly the “United Bank of Switzerland,” the bank’s officials chose to simply call it UBS due to a contradiction with another Swiss company United Bank Switzerland.  As finalized, UBS is no longer an acronym but is the actual brand.  The logo of three keys stands for confidence, security, and discretion.

Final Company Statement:

It should be noted that UBS has a major presence in the US with their headquarters located in New York City, while the Weehawken, New Jersey location is for private wealth management advisory.  The office in Stamford, Connecticut is intended for sales and trading, and private wealth management.
