Company Summary:

BMC Software, Inc. is an American enterprise software company.  BMC offers software as a service (SaaS)-based and on-premises software and services in areas that include cloud computing, IT service management, automation, IT operations, and mainframe.  BMC is a private multinational firm that operates in North and South America, Australia, Europe, and Asia.  They also have multiple offices located around the globe.  BMC’s international headquarters is currently found in Houston, Texas. 

BMC was established in Houston, Texas by former workforce of Shell Oil, Scott Boulette, John J. Moores, and Dan Cloer in September of 1980.  The initials of their surnames appear in the company name of BMC Software.  Moores was the company’s first CEO when they were first established.  BMC wrote software for IBM mainframe computers, first and foremost.  Come mid-1990s, BMC started to develop software to monitor, manage, and automate both distributed and mainframe systems.

Richard A. Hosley II succeeded Moores as CEO and president in 1987 and took the company public a year later.  They were re-incorporated in Delaware and had an initial public offering for BMC stock which was originally traded on NASDAQ under the symbol BMCS and on the NYSE with symbol BMC.
