Company Summary:

Air Canada is the flag carrier and the biggest airline of Canada by fleet size and by number of passengers carried.  Their headquarters may be found in the city of Montreal, Quebec.  Air Canada provides both schedule and charter air transport for passengers and cargo to 207 destinations all around the globe.   Trans-Canada Air Lines (TCA) is Air Canada’s predecessor.  They were created by federal legislation as a subsidiary of Canadian National Railway on 11 April 1937.  The Department of Transport was just new then and the department wanted to have an airline that is under the control of the government to be able to link cities on the Atlantic coast to those on the Pacific coast.  They purchased three planes from Canadian Airways and brought in tenured airline executives from United Airlines and American Airlines. Passenger flights started to happen in September of the same year and soon after, TCA hired their very first flight attendants.   By the 1960s, TCA had grown to be Canada’s flag carrier and later changed its name to Air Canada, which TCA had been using as their French-language name.  COVID-19 pandemic forced Air Canada to heavily restrict service due to the travel restrictions brought on by the pandemic.  Air Canada announced they will need to suspend most of their flights by 31 March 2020.  Flights resumed to normal on 22 May 2020, having flights to more cities over the summer.
