Two years later Joshua Barnes, Branch, Hadley, and three other men a charter and named their bank Brand Banking and Trust Company. In 1995, Southern National Bank merged with BB&T and took over all its assets. SunTrust Banks and BB&T merged to create the eighth largest US bank. In 2019 they announced that the merger company would be called Truist Financial Corporation.
