PNC Financial Services Group (PNC) is an American bank company and financial services corporation. The company was founded in 1845 as the Pittsburgh Trust and Savings Company but it was not operational until 1852 due to the Great Fire of Pittsburgh. It renamed the company Pittsburgh Trust Company in 1853 and once again to First National Bank of Pittsburgh in 1863. During the mid 1940s First National merged with Peoples-Pittsburgh Trust Company and formed Peoples Fist National Bank & Trust. In the year 1959 the company merged with Fidelity Trust Company and formed Pittsburgh National Bank. Finally in 1982 the company merged with Provident National Corporation and created PNC Financial Corporation.
