Tufts University is a private research university that is on the border of Medford and Somerville, Massachusetts. They are known for its internationalism, promoting active citizenship, stay abroad programs, and public service across all disciples. Tufts University offers 160 graduate programs and over 90 undergraduate programs across ten schools in the greater Boston area and Talloires, France. The largest school at Tufts is the School of Arts and Sciences, which also includes both the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences through the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University. They also have a campus in Downtown Boston that houses the nutrition, medical, and dental schools.

The college was founded in 1852 as Tufts College by Christian universalists that sought to provide a nonsectarian institution of higher learning. It traces back to the 1940s when the Universalist Church wanted to open a college in New England. Charles Tuft then donated 20 acres to the church in 1852, which helped them achieve their goal. In 1892, Tufts Board of Trustees voted the college be opened to women in the undergraduate departments. Tufts remained a small New England liberal arts college until the 1970s, it transformed into a large research university that offers several doctorates. Tufts University is classified as a Research I university which denotes the highest level of research activity.
