Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) is a private research university in Henrietta in Rochester, New York. The university They offer graduate and undergraduate degrees, as well as professional and doctoral and online masters degrees. RIT has approximately 19,00 students in total, 16,000 undergraduate students and 3000 graduate students. Students attend from all 50 states in the United States and more than 100 countries. The university was founded 193 years ago in 1829 and is the tenth largest private university in the United States. It traces back to 1891 when Rochester Athenæum and The Mechanics Institute merged to create Rochester Athenæum and Mechanics Institute. Rochester Athenæum was a struggling literary society founded in 1829 by Colonel Nathaniel Rochester and associates. The Mechanics Institute was a school of practical technical training for local residents that was founded in 1885 by a consortium of local businessmen. In 1944 the school changed its name to Rochester Institute of Technology, also reestablished The Athenæum’s 1829 founding charter and became a full fledged researched university.
